Oils - Farms and Fields

Montana has a rich history of settlement. Lewis and Clark, seeking routes to the Pacific, led the way, to be followed by the fur trappers. Then the miners came, scratching the earth for the region's rich mineral resources. Cattle drovers, ranchers, and farmers sought grasses for livestock and land for crops. Each succeeding generation left their mark on this land. sometimes leaving a cruel scar, from open-pit mining or clearcutting timber, but more often marking in lasting settlement— ranches, farms, homes and towns — always though with their lives and their legacy, and their love of Montana. The remains of the homesteads, the ranches, even the ghost towns provide an inspiration for many of the paintings offered here.
